Visit of the town

After the crossroads to Castelvecchio di Rocca Barbena in the direction of Garessio, you’ll arrive in the territory of the municipality of Erli, towards the Po valley watershed and the 957 meters of the Piedmontese hill of San Bernardo.

Its 250 inhabitants live in 14 hamlets scattered among chestnut groves, orchards and vegetable gardens; here and there a bell tower rises above the green or is a group of abandoned stone houses.

You are in the high altitudes of Pigato DOC, but even more than of wine this is a land of vegetable gardens and orchards where some specialties grow:  "pelandroni" beans , "valeggia" and  "siccardi" apricots (small and with speckled skin), or "michelin" peaches with white pulp.

It is not easy to find these delicacies, but asking around in the 14 hamlets, you may find a farmer willing to sell some products.

The queens of the thick woods of Eragna are chestnuts, to which is dedicated an autumn festival during which you can also taste a dish of Piedmontese origin: the white “polenta” with leek sauce, which is also the “protagonist” of another festival, that is organized in the last weekend of June.
